The Berlin Wall
FYI, if you have any interest, with the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall (Nov. 9, 1989), there are a large number of retrospective feature articles being published. I have enjoyed so very much reading many of them, I wanted to share.
Photography fans will enjoy well done "then & now" photographic galleries at both the New York Times and Spiegel International. The first Spiegel link below features a number of photographs from Lubeck [Lubeck is about 30 minutes from our Sister City of Eutin] and other Schleswig-Holstein area locations along the East-West divide.
Both papers' online editions have lots and lots of interesting reads about the fall of the wall and other features about the events of the Summer & Fall of 1989. Many of these were published just today, but even more articles have been published in both papers over the last month.
This link will lead you to a collection of dozens of articles in the NYT, including today. In addition, it includes links to articles written 20 years ago. A really wonderful and robust set of reads.
Likewise, Spiegel has a wonderful collection of articles, and they are of course written from the perspective of those who lived through the experience.
Enjoy.
